About Joanne M. Hawthorne, Attorney at Law
Joanne M. Hawthorne has spent her legal career focusing on Wills, Estates and Trusts and Domestic Relations Law. She specializes in the drafting of Wills and Trusts, probate and the administration of estates, Elder Law, and Matrimonial matters. Ms. Hawthorne works tirelessly on behalf of her clients in any venue. Her experience in Surrogate’s Court makes both the estate planning and probate process “painless” and dignified. With issues of Family Law, she gives personal attention to each of her clients and to their unique family circumstances and situations. She has been a member of the New York State Bar for over 20 years and is actively involved in the Nassau County Matrimonial Section of the Nassau County Bar Association. Ms. Hawthorne holds certifications as a Guardian, Guardian ad Litem, Court Evaluator, Attorney for the Alleged Incapacitated Person, Counsel to Guardian and Supplemental Needs Trust Trustee, receiving appointments in both Surrogate’s Court and Supreme Court in all boroughs of New York and Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Ms. Hawthorne is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Washington & Lee University School of Law, where she served on the Moot Court Board and as a founding Editor of the Environmental Law Journal. She was a Client Counseling and Negotiations Competition finalist and a recipient of American Jurisprudence Awards in Trial Practice and Property Law. Ms. Hawthorne earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Virginia with a concentration in Special Education. She honed her litigation skills during her tenure as a Bronx County Assistant District Attorney.
Ms. Hawthorne (formerly Bocketti) is a lifelong Massapequa resident and is active in many community organizations and charities. She is a past member of the Board of Directions for the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce and of the Board Directors of the YES Community Counseling Center.
Ms. Hawthorne has been named a “Super Lawyer” in the field of Estate Planning and Probate for 2020 and 2021.
